Neighborhood vintage 2002 indigo dyed denim pants, size M (fits 32”)
Up for sale here is a pair of pants from the Neighborhood label. Neighborhood is one of Japan’s longer-running streetwear labels, one that often references vintage American work, biker and military wear. Neighborhood have been active for quite a while now, and this is definitely a vintage design from them, slimmer in fit overall compared to what they are doing these days, but using the same high quality production.
These pants aim for a pretty classic style, referencing 1960s-70s era denim in my opinion. Fabric is 100% cotton with a design that is nicely faded. I am not sure if the fading is due to wear or intentionally produced that way, but either way it is a vintage wash that looks really cool. The big twist in the design comes with the extra ridges built into the center of the legs on the front and back. This is a design that came up periodically in the late 1960s and 70s, often with flared pants, although the fit is kept straight and fairly slim in this case. Other details include custom arcs on the rear pockets, a zip fly with custom waistband button and Neighborhood logo tape, logo tag on the rear right pocket, and custom patch on the waistband.
As you can expect with Neighborhood, fit, materials and detailing are given the utmost care. These are always produced in limited quantities and don’t come cheap at retail. These pants went for about $200 in Japan and are now long gone. Get it here for much less.
Size is labeled a medium and fits a 32” waist best. The rise is a bit low and I measure the waist at 34”, but these sit a bit lower which accounts for the somewhat larger waist measurement. Inseam is 26.5”, rise is 9.5” and leg opening is 8”. The pants come in a straight, somewhat slim cut. They are lightly used, in good shape overall. There is a bit of wear on the crotch and seat, but plenty of life left here and otherwise no holes, tears or stains. Made in Japan.
