A special feature on these jeans is the back cinch. From the late 1800s to the late 1930s, before the widespread popularity of belts, the back cinch (also known as a ‘martingale’ and a ‘back buckle’) was a common feature of almost every pair of jeans.
The cinch was originally placed on the waistband but later moved down to the yoke. It consists of 2 strips of denim, reinforced w/a rivet on either side, held together w/a buckle. It literally cinches in the waistband, to fit snugly on the waist yet still be comfortably loose on the butt and hips.
These beauties also feature selvage/selvedge denim from American mills, which makes them especially rare. It’s typical to wear these jeans with a rolled-up cuff to show off the selvedge itself. On these Lucky Brand the selvedge edge is also noticeable at the top of the fifth pocket for a little added detail. The words selvedge denim relate to self-edge or self-finished fabric edges. Selvedge denim jeans use the actual self-edge in the construction – specifically along the outseam. Turn the cuffs up or roll them to show off this special feature!
Vintage condition w/extensive wear as shown on hems, coin pocket.
