Stevenson Overall Co. is a Japanese maker of casual-style menswear inspired by the workwear produced between 1800 and 1960 in America.
The name, Stevenson Overall Co., is derived from the American label of the same name founded in 1920 in Portland, Indiana. The company used to make workwear for the area's workers, with high-quality details such as buttons engraved with the company's name. The company folded during the Great American Depression of the 1930s.
In 2005, Zip Stevenson (no relation to the company), a denim expert from California found an old invoice issued by Stevenson Overall Co. He looked further into the brand and was impressed by its history and products, so much so that he decided to relaunch the label together with his Japanese friend Atsusuke Tagaya. They launched their venture in Tokyo's Harujuku district under the same name, Stevenson Overall Co.
Since its formation, the new Stevenson Overall Co. manufactures entirely in Japan on antique machinery. Their vintage-style jeans feature certain unique characteristics such as rounded back pockets and single-stitch flat felled seams utilizing sewing methods from before the 1920s.
With time, they started making shirts, outerwear, and accessories like belts, socks, and caps.
