Stella Ishii is an American fashion executive, the founder/owner of 6397 and The NEWS.
In 1995, Ishii founded a fashion store named Staff USA in New York City and worked with an Italian manufacturer, introducing various international brands—such as Martin Margiela, Vivienne Westwood, New York Industries, and Alberto Biani—to the American audience. After The Staff was acquired by Diesel, Ishii founded The NEWS showroom. The name of the store was inspired by the work of her husband, Jerry Kamitaki, a conceptual artist who was working on a series representing the four directions—North, East, West, and South.
By 2013, The NEWS evolved into her own women's fashion label named 6397. (6397 is the alphanumeric rendering of the letters N-E-W-S on a telephone keypad.) The 6397 store is in the NOLITA neighborhood of New York (199 Mulberry St.) In 2017, an e-commerce store was launched for the brand.
